Nostalgic tunes

There are some songs that whenever I hear them, they spark a particular memory in my mind. And it may not seem like it's that big of a deal and may not even be worth sharing, but I want to anyway. Here are some quick finds in my Itunes collection:

1. God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood -- reminds me of going to Schofield Barracks (Army base) every 4th of July for the show and fireworks periodically from the time I was seven until I was 30. It seems more patriotic to celebrate the day among those who are serving for our country. This little gal pictures is my niece, Brittany who was two in the pic.

2. Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen -- I wasn't familiar with this song until it was featured in Wayne's World in 1992 (my senior year of high school). I had a long dark brown hair and a black hat, so a few people joked that I looked like Wayne. It didn't help that I worked at the movie theatre, so we saw it about 10x. Even now, when I hear that song, I feel the need to start banging my head up and down when they launch into "so you think you stop me and spit in my eye?" I can't find a pic of me with my long hair and the hat, so just look at my profile pic and add about six inches to it.

3. Never Tear Us Apart by INXS -- My first "adult" concert my freshman year of high school. I adore this song, and it still gives me goose bumps whenever I hear it. And yes, that's me holding the sign. I look like a prisoner, don't I?

4. Circle of Life - Lion King Soundtrack -- My last real summer vacation and I worked at the movie theatres. We had The Lion King all summer long and had to listen to it with the credits at.least.three.times.every. single. day. I had a blast that summer and this was a shot taken with my friends Cameron (yes, he's 6'5"), Juan and Denise.

5. I Don’t Know How to Love Him - Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack. I tried to see this damn musical twice: one time in Hawaii and one time in Texas. I was late BOTH damn times and have missed the first part. I was with my friends Ana and Denise (featured in other pics in this post) and we were only about 10 min. late due to traffic. However, I'm pictured with my friend, Robert, who made us an entire ACT late the second time because he bought our tickets and said the show started an hour after it really did. I STILL give him Hell for it:)

6. Macarena by (I have no idea) -- this was played at my sister's wedding, which was the first time I got really drunk in public and also attempted to do that dance. Here, you see me dancing (or something) with my friend Ana. My sister invited two of her teachers to the wedding, and I still went up and "explained" to them that while I was drunk, I was not driving (I'd been in SADD all four years). Yeah, they just laughed at me:)

7. Yesterday by The Beatles. Whenever I would wear my hat, people would sometimes get me confused with this guy from afar. Nice, huh? Anyway, Adam loved this song and played it over and over, so we all learned it and once we actually paid attention to the lyrics, also began to love it. Everytime I hear this, I want to scream it out, just as we so eloquently used to do.

8. Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World - Izrael Kamakawiwo'ole. My step-dad picked this out as one of the songs he wanted played at his funeral. Most of you would recognize this tune, as it's played in many commercials, movies and TV shows (with the ukelele). This is a pic of my niece putting a flower lei over my step-dad's gravestone on his birthday.

9. The Phantom of the Opera -- When I was in NYC last September, Lori and I gussied up and went to see the show and had a great time. I met several other bloggers that weekend, but Lori hung with me the entire weekend and then ended it by getting her suitcase jammed in the subway turnstile and had to pay for the bag to have its own fare. I could not stop laughing, and there's no way I can describe it very well -- you just had to be there.

10. Everything I Do by Bryan Adams -- the very last and no picture. This was "the song" with my high school senior year boyfriend. It still brings back memories because John was the first guy that I really, really liked and made me realize that not all guys were like the jerk before. John moved back to Texas right before Christmas, and though I was going to college about four hours away, he had already moved on to someone else by my spring break (my college choice had nothing to do with him; it was just a coincidence). I actually didn't think I had a picture of him until tonight when I was going through my albums and found one, which was rather unnerving. And then I noticed -- and had put out of my mind -- that he had a mullet, and I realized that it never would've worked out anyway.
