My dear blogger column

Sorry I have not had "much" to post about the past few days. I cannot seem to catch up on my sleep over the past nine days or so and feel like I'm walking around in a haze.

I can't decide if I should go to Hawaii over Labor Day weekend and visit my mom. You're probably wondering how that should even be a question, given the circumstances. Well, there are a couple of reasons. The big one is that because of new "newness," I can probably only get one trip until my official vacation kicks in next year.

And I wonder if this is the best use/time of this trip or would she rather have company over the holidays or when she's moved to South Carolina (even if she re-builds, she wants to move and then come back periodically to check on the status). Keep in mind that my mom loathes to be alone over holidays and loves big Christmas family gatherings. Just like in asking for the help to go through the ash/soot, she hates to tell people what she really wants, and I can't read her mind. If I could go twice, this wouldn't even be a question.

My mom's also mentioned that once the house is bulldozed, and she's submitted all her paperwork to the insurance companies, she wants to get away and "escape." And, she wants to come to Seattle to visit, regardless of whether I go there (most likely by the end of September). When I asked her about it last night because I wanted to secure a ticket at the current promo rate, her response was merely a "Come if you want to, but I don't think I'll have anything for you to do." But, Sept. 1 is also her birthday. And, I'd get to see my friends and personally thank them for their help.
