The hunt never ends

I've been in the job market since the week after MLK Day, so not quite six weeks. I've come to the realization that it's a lot like dating, and I'm, quite frankly, not sure which process is more excruciating. So, I thought I'd shed some light on this matter in a way that exemplifies my anal retentativeness -- a list.

Top 10 Ways Job Hunting Is Like Dating:

1. Even though people mean well by asking, you feel like a failure having to talk about the search until something definite evolves.

2. I've had some first-round interviews lately, but it's "too soon to tell" if something will turn into a second date...er, interview.

3. People ask the same questions over and over and it's hard not to sound canned in your responses.

4. Initial interactions are filled with false-fronts. No one wants to say "I'm really hoping this will be easy enough so I have time to blog" or "this company rarely promotes and gives raises."

5. The background and character of the candidates is not as important as the chemistry between the two parties.

6. People don't hesitate to tell you what they think you're doing wrong, and offer unsolicited tips on how to get the man...er, job, even though their last search was 10+ years ago.

7. You dress up in your suit and your counterpart is in jeans.

8. You're much more genteel in your vocabulary at first, in that words like "rat bastard" and "fucking A" aren't part of regular conversation.

9. You completely judge a person in an hour or two, and then hypocritically wonder how someone could do that to you?

10. At the end, they say "I'll call you."

I'll be sporadically updating/reading blogs as my SIL and two nieces are arriving this afternoon from Arizona and will be here until Tuesday. Have a great weekend!
