She'll never fit into his shoes
I'm sure you are all fascinated to find out that Seattle was named by brand name AXE as "the best place for hooking up." Upon further reading, I discovered that it was not, in fact, dating but rather in relation to the ability to find partners with which to have casual sex. Let's put aside the wonderment of their number of subject studies and how the information was gathered, it nevertheless touches upon a popular and sensitive subject for the 21st century.
A freelance writer to The Seattle Times tells a story of meeting a man, exchanging business cards and two hours later, he calls her to invite her to have casual sex. He even jokes that "they could have coffee first." Don't believe me? The story is here. I don't know if I'm more offended that it happened or that I'm not surprised that it did.
One of my regular blog reads and one of several I've now met in-person, TAB, participated in a debate last week in NYC with the topic of "Who has it tougher in dating -- men or women?" This change in the dating scene, from our parents' generation, of skipping straight over courting to sex and then not even have it be exclusive, is tougher for women, since we are the ones that are usually more emotionally attached. I wonder if most men would even be disappointed if they received an offer similar to the Times writer?
Yes, we seek equality in the work place, but that doesn't come with re-wiring our genetic circuit to supress our emotions. Unfortunately, that's why even the best of us still cry when we're so pissed and frustrated, even at work and it will take years to get that damn flaw to evolve out of the female DNA.
I don't think either gender has it tougher than the other; it sucks on both sides of the table. And quite frankly, I don't see how any one could be considered an expert since this is definitely one area where it's impossible to walk in the other side's shoes. However, that doesn't give either side the right to be intentionally misleading and play games.
That's for Congress.
