Men and chick flicks

The following took place yesterday between 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.:

I'm at Costco purchasing some prescriptions, when I decide that I just HAD to have the DVD of my favorite movie of 2004 -- The Notebook. I will never, ever stop pimping this movie out to anyone because it's such a great story. It's about a woman who has Alzheimer's and when she's old, the husband reads their history to her out of his... notebook, and it will sometimes bring her back for brief moments of lucidity. And for what it's worth, people who have read the book have said the movie follows it well.

I'm checking out at the register when the bagger, who didn't have to do much to do with my one video, notices my purchase (I'm going to try to type our our local dialect of Pidgin English as best I can):

Bagger: Oh, da Notebook?
Becky: Yeah, have you seen it yet? (I notice the male cashier is listening to us intently)
Bagger: No (in this tone of voice like he would never watch a chick flick)
Becky: Well, it's really a good movie. Your chick will love it and so will you, if you have an open-mind. I know many guys who have seen it that liked it. In fact, I don't know anyone who has seen it who didn't like it.
Cashier (now feeling like he wont' get his testes snipped if he participates): Yeah, brah. I seen it too. It's good. I liked it.
Bagger: Did you cry, cuz?
Cashier: No, I no cry!
Becky: Yes, you did. You know you did. EVERYONE likes this movie.
Cashier (blushing like a teenager caught with a stripper): Okay, I did. It's better than Titanic, brah.
Becky: Hell, yeah, it's better than Titanic. Titanic has cheese. Everything in The Notebook could happen, for real.
Cashier: Yeah, brah. It's fo' real.

So, there you heard it from not only Becky but also the Costco cashier. I was telling my single girlfriends about it on Saturday and they seemed a little concerned it might make them too sad. I said, "Well, maybe, but it doesn't make me sad so much as it gives me hope." And, even if you are in a healthy relationship, it's still worth watching b/c I think it will make you even more appreciative of what you have. You know what I'll be doing this evening.

And, doesn't this pic make you want to go out in the rain?
